Mariah Carey Revealed She Doesn't Have a Driver's License

Divas don't drive, they're driven.

There's no skirting around the fact that Mariah Carey is the ultimate diva. She sleeps surrounded by 20 humidifiers to care for her voice and refuses to speak the day before a performance. Oh, and she doesn't celebrate birthdays ("I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling.") But perhaps the most diva thing of all about Ms. Carey is that she hasn't driven herself anywhere in years.

This week, Mariah appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show and revealed that she doesn't currently have a driver's license and hasn't for seven years. "If there were one street that I could say, 'OK, this is a safe street for me to drive' I would do that," Mariah explained. "But the thing is, it's just better for me to go with somebody in the car and not drive."

Carey clarified that while she knows how to drive, she let her license expire and hasn't renewed it. "I don't have a license, because I let it expire," she continued. "I did have one and then I left where I was living. I was living in the city and you don't really want to drive in Manhattan. Well, I don't." She added, "And the when I went to go be like, 'OK, my license.' They were like, 'Oh, well it's expired and expired like seven years ago.' So then I was going to have to take the test again."

Hudson chimed in, "I don't think I'd pass if I took the test again." Mariah agreed, adding: "That's what I'm saying!"

During the show, Carey made yet another surprising revelation. When asked about the most casual item of clothing in her closet, the singer shared that she doesn't own sneakers. "Probably some hideous slides that someone made me purchase,” she said. “Because I don't own sneakers. Because I get a blister on the back of my foot.”

Heels, she argues, are more comfortable because she walks on her toes. “I've always done that," Mariah explained. "So it's kind of a thing.”
