Many know and love tennis superstar Maria Sharapova for her iconic tennis serve and may follow her forays into the business world, but now she has a new title to add to her already multi-hyphenate description: furniture designer. Today, Sharapova launches her debut home collection with Rove Concepts, a contemporary, craftsmanship-driven furniture and home decor brand based in the Pacific Northwest.
The Maria Collection, featuring six pieces designed in partnership with Sharapova, is inspired by her love of art, architecture, and traveling the world. Her designs pay homage to her multifaceted life as a legendary athlete, successful entrepreneur, passionate arts enthusiast, and now as a burgeoning designer.
Not only does this collection feature exclusive creations designed by the tennis phenom, but it also has five fabrics designed exclusively for this collection. The Maria Sofa and Maria Bench both feature this velvety, plush fabric offered in Olive Green, Warm Taupe, Blush, Alesund, and Porpoise. These five colorways also speak to the natural elegance that serves as the collection's common thread.
"I’m very inspired by natural textures and natural hues—from the natural woods to the olive green color, the material palette was incredibly important," says Sharapova. "I wanted these pieces to feel timeless so that if you already have a home that’s been furnished, they fit in and you don’t feel that you have to build an entirely new design plan around them.”
Sharapova leaned into the organic beauty, lines, and materials found in nature while juxtaposing them with the sculptural designs of her favorite works of contemporary art to create these uniquely timeless pieces. This collection welcomes the beauty of the outdoors in while elevating the everyday with beautifully designed pieces that feature chic curvature and sumptuous textures. The Maria Rug is 100 percent natural jute and knotted by hand, while the matching Maria Side and Coffee tables are made with glass-reinforced concrete and designed to reflect the material's natural textures.
“I love the quality of a product and I think that’s why I was drawn to Rove," Sharapova says. "For my first collection, it was the perfect partner because I knew we were creating a collection that I was passionate about, that I was selective about.
