  • Maria Menounos showed off her surgery scars in a new swimsuit selfie.

  • The TV host underwent an operation to remove pancreatic cancer in February.

  • “I look back on surgery earlier this year and am grateful for the strength god blessed me with,” she wrote.

Five months after undergoing surgery that removed stage 2 pancreatic cancer, TV host and podcaster Maria Menounos is celebrating her scars as evidence of life. On July 10, the 45-year-old shared a swimsuit selfie on Instagram that showed an abdomen speckled with four small incision marks.

“I look back on surgery earlier this year and am grateful for the strength god blessed me with to get through and of course all of the beautiful humans that he sent to help me too!” she captioned the post. “Now I see the scars that I sunscreen up carefully to protect and I smile. ❤️”

In May, Menounos broke news with People that she had undergone surgery after an MRI discovered a 3.9 cm tumor on her pancreas. In the months prior, she battled abdominal pain and extreme diarrhea, along with a type 1 diabetes diagnosis. She later learned that she had a stage 2 pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, meaning it was contained within the pancreas. Thankfully, it was caught early enough to surgically remove the tumor and cancer cells via surgery without chemotherapy.

Fans and followers met her selfie with adoration for her strength. “You are one incredible warrior! From your battles, you bless us all with so much tools and inspiration! And you look great!!” one person commented. “Those scars add to your character ❤️,” another added. “So happy you continue to share your story. Thank you and be proud of those scars. You earned them,” someone else wrote.

Menounos recently opened up about her diagnosis on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast with host Amanda Hirsch. It was an especially difficult time given that she had just recovered from the removal of a benign brain tumor in 2017, her mom also died from brain cancer, and after 10 years of attempting to conceive a child via various fertility treatments with her husband, Keven Undergaro, they had just confirmed their surrogate’s pregnancy. (A little girl is due in the coming months.) Needless to say, when the radiologist flagged the alarming finding, Menounos was devastated.

“I started to well up and I looked at him and said, ‘So, I’m a goner, right?’” she told Hirsch. “I was guttural crying and [saying], ‘I can’t believe God just blessed me with a baby, I’m gonna have a baby... I’m not gonna get to meet her.’”

Menounos attributes a third-party MRI for saving her life after initial scans didn’t detect the pancreas tumor. Now, she’s a huge proponent of advocating for personal health. “No one teaches us that health is that important... we have to be the CEO of our health,” she said. “You have to just keep fighting.”

Hirsch asked her how she remains optimistic after so many life-altering battles. “I’m still healing,” she said. “I feel like it would be such a pity to be ‘Woe is me,’ when God has granted me so many miracles.”
