Maria Grazia Chiuri Puts the Emphasis on Fit and Moiré for Dior Haute Couture Spring 2024

Rihanna making a surprise appearance in the front row may have grabbed our attention, but Maria Grazia Chiuri's Spring 2024 Haute Couture collection for Dior managed to keep it — not with bells and whistles and paillettes, but with a keen eye for fit and proportion.

The strongest looks among the offering are the quietest: the opening short-sleeved trench coat with a cape overlay, khaki off-the-shoulder top with matching trousers, fitted blazer with criss-crossing lapels over a matching pleated skirt, burgundy ankle-length dress, boxy curved-sleeve overcoat over wide-leg trousers and series of jackets with curved stitching outlining the breast. They don't need any embellishments or accoutrements to distract us — the construction and silhouettes hold their own, emblematic of the expertise of the atelier. Instead, the intrigue comes in the form of moiré, which is a big focus for Dior this Haute Couture season. (The brand teased as much with a little history lesson on Instagram ahead of the runway debut.) The fabric is featured prominently throughout the collection in different colors, its shine and texture adding another layer of visual interest without doing too much.
