Late actress Sharon Tate’s look was iconic. There were the thick top and bottom lashes she wore, her silky blonde locks and, of course, her undeniable beauty. When Once Upon a Time in Hollywood makeup department head, Heba Thorisdottir, was tasked with transforming Oscar winner Margot Robbie into Tate for the film, she used a few tricks. Lucky for us, she recently shared them with The Hollywood Reporter.
“Most people that love Sharon just want the iconic look,” Thorisdottir said. But it was important to her and director Quentin Tarantino to “show her as an angelic, gorgeous woman inside and out who wasn’t always made up, to show a little more real, at-home Sharon.”
So, how did they recreate Tate’s signature makeup vibe? Surprisingly, it didn’t take as many products as you might think.
First, they prepped the skin with Iconolab Renewal Face Oil ($98), which allowed foundation to go on lighter and Robbie’s skin to glow (even more than usual). To replicate Tate’s falsies, which recently went on auction for $600, they used Red Cherry lashes ($20). Creating her lip color was a little bit more of an involved process. The three-step technique began with By Terry rose lip balm ($49) and was followed by an application of Charlotte Tilbury’s lipstick in Hepburn Honey ($34). The last step was adding the peach-toned Tilbury shade, B**ch Perfect ($34). Then voilà, Robbie was camera ready.
We can’t wait to see how it turns out and get all the inspo when Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hits theaters on July 26.
