Margot Robbie Stepped Out Wearing a Controversial Shoe Trend

While she's no stranger to red carpet glam and over-the-top comic-movie camp, Margot Robbie wore opted for an unconventional shoe at the Birds of Prey premiere. While red carpets are usually filled with barely-there sandals and traditional pumps, Robbie arrived wearing a pair of hot-pink satin kitten heel slingbacks that featured ties around the ankles. To add to the unexpected option, she wore the shoes with black stockings. It's the work of stylist Kate Young, who paired the shoes with a black dress from Khaite and a shimmering rhinestone collar from Alessandra Rich.

Vogue notes that the shoes are from Attico, a Milan-based line that focuses on "glamour and sparkle." They were just the thing to add a shock of bright color to her all-black outfit. The magazine also noted that the low heel, which is often maligned as a schoolmarm staple or training heels for the real thing, combined comfort while still giving the whole outfit a dash of "whimsy."

The color could be a nod to her character, Harley Quinn. The fan-favorite villainess has a pair of ponytails: one blue and one pink. It could also be a nod to Birds of Prey's bold, Technicolor fantasy world. It's not the dark, gritty Christopher Nolan universe, that's for sure — and Robbie's pink shoes would fit right in.
