Margot Robbie & Saoirse Ronan Are Nearly Unrecognizable in the New ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ Trailer

If you thought Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan underwent remarkable transformations for their respective roles in I, Tonya and Lady Bird, then prepare yourself.

The first trailer for the Oscar nominees’ upcoming film Mary Queen of Scots just dropped, and it has everything—like nutty wigs, period costumes, terribly thin eyebrows and fierce family drama, to name a few.

The upcoming film, directed by Josie Rourke (Much Ado About Nothing), explores the lives of Mary Queen of Scots (Ronan) and her cousin Queen Elizabeth I (Robbie).

At 16, Mary leaves her home in Scotland to marry King Francis II. But when she’s widowed at 18 she decides to return home and reclaim her rightful throne. There’s only one problem: Her homecoming threatens Elizabeth’s right to rule England and Scotland, which upsets the balance of power and provokes a family rivalry that pushes both of their nations into war.

House of Cards creator Beau Willimon penned the script based on the book Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart by John Guy. Joe Alwyn (Taylor Swift’s boyfriend), Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) and Guy Pearce (Iron Man 3) also star in the upcoming film.

Mary Queen of Scots hits theaters December 7. *Sniff, sniff*…We might just smell an Oscar.
