While the entire Barbie plot is about squashing toxic perfectionism, it's hard to ignore that Margot Robbie's skin throughout the film looks perfectly doll-like.

And, sure, some of that is just a result of good lighting and genes. But according to London-based facialist and skin expert Jasmine Vico, who worked with Robbie, Emma Mackey, America Ferrera, and Hari Nef on the film, there were a lot more pieces to their perfect skin puzzle—including a very specific tea.

"It's Barbie and she needs to look perfect, so the brief for the skin was to create that halo of light often seen in 1940s photographs," Vico told Vogue. "Everything in the movies is about lighting. That’s when I thought, okay, we’re going to work on the liver; calm the nervous system; and make skin glow, but crucially, we’re going to work on that glow from within."

Though skincare, facials, and other wellness procedures were contributed to Barbie's glow, Vico also achieved the shiny end result with a cocktail of milk thistle tea.

"Milk thistle cleanses your liver," she said. "When that happens, our liver automatically produces more glutathione, which then makes the skin more radiant. One of the most important ingredients within it is silymarin, which is now featured a lot in skincare formulas."

According to Vico, it needs to be the "spiky heart of the milk thistle." It should be brewed for 20 minutes as well to achieve peak bitterness.

"The liver likes anything bitter, because it helps it to flush," she says. "This tea is like a witch’s brew!"

Milk thistle has plenty of other health benefits: slowing the growth of cancer, lowering cholesterol levels, managing Type 2 diabetes, and promoting skin, bone and liver health. But it can also interfere with certain medications. The efficacy of anxiety, cancer, allergy, and birth control medications may be affected by taking milk thistle, Mount Sinai warns.
