Maren Morris’ Unconventional Wedding Dress Has the Sweetest Story Behind It

Maren Morris isn’t one to let stereotypes define her. The country singer recently proved she was no one-trick pony by making the huge crossover into pop with the release of her hit single “The Middle.” Now, after getting hitched to musician Ryan Hurd over the weekend, the 27-year-old is breaking free from convention once more, walking down the aisle in an untraditional dress that all but took our breath away.

As seen in a picture uploaded to her page, rather than donning a big princess gown or even an understated boho style, she opted for a short, custom white Cavanagh Baker mini dress with a flowing skirt train. She finished the look off with Miskwill rings and sky-high Gucci platform heels, sweeping her short hair half-back with a delicate, boho side braid.

It was the perfect choice for the petite singer, who noted that she “boogied back down the aisle” to Wilson Phillips’ “Hold On.”

In an alternatee shot, Hurd gave us a better glimpse of the unique piece from the front, showcasing its keyhole chest cutout and halter-style straps

As his new bride explained to People back in October, the inspo for her gown was rather sentimental — It came from her mother’s own wedding back in 1989. “She was a badass and had short wedding dress, so I sent it to this designer I love. I was like, if we can do a modern version of mom’s wedding dress… I would love to make that happen.”

Make it happen she did — we’re blown away! Congratulations, Maren!
