A shooting occurred Monday morning at an elementary school in Nashville.

After a shooting at a private Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday, March 27, many celebrities have responded to the tragic events on social media.

As the news was released, Maren Morris shared what was happening on her Instagram Stories, adding the message, "oh my god." with a broken heart emoji. Like many other country artists, Morris calls Nashville home.

She later reposted her husband Ryan Hurd's Story, in which he said, "I don't even know what to say. I have been in tears all day. This is our back yard. I don't know if I know these people but I know they are at the very least friends of friends without even knowing their names. For 6 families, 'could have been worse' is just not true. We are heartbroken. I just want to hug these families. Cry with them. I pray and mourn with them. I am just so sad. I feel helpless. I hold them up in love and also rage. There are kids who will never come home and I cannot handle that."

Jessie James Decker also lives in the city with her family, responding to the news in an Instagram Story.

The singer, with tears in her eyes, said, "A lot of you are messaging, and it's not my kids' school, but it's only two miles up the road. It's in our town, it's in our community. It is just awful. I'm just heartbroken for these families. Please pray so hard for these families and this community. This just should not be happening."

She also shared that she quickly picked her kids up from school after the news broke, and they are home safe.

Jane Lynch tweeted about the shooting, writing, "We live in a world where [this] has become acceptable to shoot children dead in school."

She also wrote, "We live in a world where members of Congress wear AR15 pins instead of American flag pins."

Many celebrities in the country music community were in shock at the shooting and took to social media to share their responses, with Cassadee Pope writing, "I’m sick to my stomach. These were babies. To what extent will we continue to protect our 'precious' guns? How is this still happening?"

Carly Pearce tweeted, "Pray for Nashville. A shooting at a school has occurred. Three children dead. Praying for these babies & their families. Absolutely devastating."

Actress and singer Jana Kramer, who lives in Nashville with her children, shared an update on her Instagram Stories, writing, "Jolie and Jace are okay...My heart is absolutely breaking for the children and families right now...Why. Why. Why. I just will never understand...Please pray."

Brittany Aldean wrote on her Story, "Lord Jesus, please be [sic] send a flood of angels to all of the parents at the Covenant school. God our hearts break with yours for these families. Lord, help us see the way through this continued evil."

Even more celebrities continue to speak out as more information is released. Katie Couric shared on social media, "3 children and two adults are dead following a shooting at a private school in Nashville. When will it end?"

She also posted more in-depth information about the shooting on Instagram.

Actress Katie Stevens, who just gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Rome, earnestly wrote on her Instagram Stories, "Spent this morning weeping for the families who don't get to hold their babies again. I will never understand why this keeps happening. And why children are dying because our country is failing to put laws in place that protect them."

She went on, "The fact that there are laws to 'protect' children from drag queens and not gun violence is INFURIATING to me. I cant believe my daughter has to grow up, and go to school where she has to learn how to 'lockdown' for a gunman in daycare, when she should only have to worry about learning how to color and play. I feel devastated, heartbroken, and hopeless. And Im just so sorry to these families."

Many others also shared their thoughts on the shooting and deaths, including Jeri Ryan, Nathan Followill of Kings of Leon, and Morgan Fairchild.
