March in York for Mental Health Awareness Month

(WHTM)– May is Mental Health Awareness Month and there’s far less, if any, of a stigma when it comes to talking about it, or when it comes to marching for the cause.

That’s what folks did through the streets of York on Thursday. The idea was to raise awareness early in the month — and keep awareness high later.

“If you yourself or someone you know have mental health issues, understand you’re not alone,” mental health advocate Bernard Hartlove said. “But mental health is not a one-month thing. It’s an ongoing 24/7/365 thing. So my hope is that we continue to message beyond may every single day.”

Many marchers wore green, that’s because a green ribbon is the international symbol of mental health awareness.
