Before you pull out your apron and get to baking, we've got some information you might find just as sweet.

As you can see, the map is divided into five categories:

Center-filled

Colorful

Italian

Sugar-coated

Other

Italian Christmas cookies were the most searched Christmas cookie category in America over the 2023 holiday season, with 17 states looking up some variation of the dessert. Ree Drummond's home state of Oklahoma even falls into this group, with a trending search of ricotta Christmas cookies! The "other" category takes second place with unique Christmas cookie recipes ranging from peppermint cookies in Indiana and Iowa to fruitcake cookies in Alabama. If you haven't already, you'll want to add these to your collection of cookie recipes. (Trust us on this one.)

A few other noteworthy searches include peanut butter blossoms, which were the dominant cookie in four states, including North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio, as well as red velvet cookies in Kansas, Illinois, and Kentucky. As for the classics, Christmas sugar cookies were the most popular pick in three states, while versions of gingerbread cookies also took the top spot in three states.

And that's the way the Christmas cookie map crumbles. 😉

Oh! If you're looking to put together a few cookie boxes for friends and family, try a few of the recipes featured here. Ree herself says, "Christmas cookies should be a celebration of color and texture, and a mix of shapes and sizes." And this map lets you do just that!
