This Map Shows Americans' Favorite Christmas Cookie By State—And The Results Are Surprising
Move aside, ham. During the holidays, there's nothing more festive than Christmas cookies. From traditional favorites like chocolate chip to unique treats like Panettone cookies and Creme Brûlée Sugar Cookies, the sky's the limit when it comes to baking. And now you can see what the most-searched cookies are in your state, with the help of recently released Google Trends data.
The map shows uniquely searched Christmas cookies by state between December 3 and 9, according to reporting by Axios. The story also defined "uniquely searched" as cookie varieties that were overrepresented in a region compared to the rest of the country. It's also color coded by cookie types, so you can easily see trends across the country.
What Google calls "international cookies" are popular on the East Coast, with Italian Christmas cookie reigning supreme, along with Mexican wedding cookies and Polish Christmas cookies. While there isn't much interest in chocolate (other than Kansans' love of hot chocolate cookies), peanut butter blossoms—sweet peanut butter cookies topped with Hershey Kisses—are in demand.
Americans searched a lot for classics like gingerbread and sugar cookies, and lesser known cookies, too. The most searched cookie in Hawaii was the ube Christmas cookie, featuring the brightly-colored purple root vegetable that's popular in the state. Texans were in search of the Springerle cookie, while people in North Carolina sought out the Moravian cookie—both tied to Germany.
