New movies incoming! Zack Synder revealed the future for his new movie series and how many parts of Rebel Moon there are in the works.

Rebel Moon—Part 1: A Child Of Fire introduced a Star Wars-like type universe but more sexier and violent. The movie follows Kora (Sofia Boutella), who fought for the Imperium, on a quiet farming moon of Veldt. Her fate changes as Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) comes to Veldt via a Dreadnought-class battle cruiser and among orders from Balisarius (Fra Fee). She teams up with teams up Veldt farmer Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), mercenary Kai (Charlie Hunnam), Titus (Djimon Hounsou), Tarak (Staz Nair), Nemesis (Doona Bae), refugee Milius (E. Duffy), and the insurgent siblings Darrian (Ray Fisher) and Devra Bloodaxe (Cleopatra Coleman) to fight their way through the regime.

“I’ve always loved this idea of these underdog teams going against impossible odds. Even in college, when they would ask us what kind of a movie we were going to make when we got out of school, I said, “I’m going to make a space team-building underdog movie” director Zack Snyder told Netflix Tudum. “And so it went on to the back burner for a long time. It saw light briefly as a [potential] Star Wars movie and then after Army of the Dead, it just felt like, during the pandemic, it really gestated into a real movie. While Army of the Dead was probably still in post, I was pitching it to Netflix as a follow-up, what I wanted to do next.”

According to Zach Snyder, there are at least three more sequels on the way for Rebel Moon. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that there will be a graphic novel, a podcast and a photo book included in the universe. Rebel Moon—Part 2: The Scargiver is set to be released on April 24, 2024.

In an interview with SFX, Snyder talks about the potential for more movies. “I don’t know how much I would love that.” Talking about the expanded universe, he explained, “I mean, it’s happening with the comic books in some way, and it’s happening with the animated film, though I’ll probably direct that. It’s happening with the podcast.”

“These are stories that we pitch to each other and I have to hear them and say, ‘That’s cool, that works in the world.’ So it’s happening on a small scale right now… A trilogy of sequels is cool,” he clarified.

Before making the sequels, he’s set to release the R-rated director’s cut of Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child Of Fire. “It’s more about a deep dive into the universe — it’s a lot more,” Snyder said about the potential of the movie taking place in another world to Polygon. “It’s almost like the story takes place in a slightly different dimension than this movie that’s about to come out.”

He also revealed that there were scenes in the director’s cut that were purposefully made for the other version. “The director’s cut is close to an hour of extra content, so I think it’s a legitimate extended universe version,” he said. “You really get to see a lot. It’s just more painted-in all the way. The director’s [cut] is a settle-in deep dive, which I have notoriously done throughout my career. I don’t know how I got into this director’s cut thing, but what I will say about it is that, for me, the director’s cuts have always been something I had to fight for in the past and nobody wanted it. It was this bastard child that I was always trying to put together because they felt like there was a deeper version. And with Netflix, we shot scenes just for the director’s cut. So in that way, it’s really a revelation because it gives that second kick at the can for big fans, like a real discovery that they would not [otherwise] get.”
