Whem does Dune: Part Two come out?

The second installment of the Dune franchise hits theaters on November 3, 2022.

Is there a trailer for Dune: Part Two?

Yes! At CinemaCon on April 24, the trailer for the saga's final part debuted and was released to the public on May 2.

Variety reports that Timothée Chalamet rides a sandworm in the upcoming movie. On April 27, director Denis Villeneuve told Vanity Fair that riding one of these creatures is a "rite of passage" for Fremen, the inhabitants of the remote planet where the movie takes place. "It's a matter of life and death because, if you f--k it up, you’re going to kill yourself," Denis told the outlet. "It's a rite of passage. It's the way you become an adult in the Fremen world. That is a very important part of their culture and they respect the worms as half-gods, so they have a religious relationship with the worm."

"In the first movie Paul Atredis is a student…we really see Paul Atreides become a leader here," Timothée teased at CinemaCon. After the first movie, his character Paul is taken in by the native inhabitants of the planet known as the Fremen. He joins their resistance, and his eyes turn icy blue like Zendaya's character, Chani. Paul also becomes blessed (and cursed) with psychic visions that make him more powerful than ever.

On June 29, the second trailer dropped, giving us another glimpse of an unrecognizable Austin Butler, as well as a first look at Christopher Walken's character, Emperor Shaddam IV.

Are there any pictures from Dune: Part Two?

On May 2, Zendaya shared the official poster for Dune: Part Two ahead of the trailer's official release on Instagram."⊃∪∩⪽ Part Two. November 3, 2023," she captioned the post. Her character, Chani, is stood next to Timothée Chalamet's character, Paul, in the sand dunes with a spotlight view of the sun behind them.

Vanity Fair released an exclusive first look at the film with new photos featuring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and more in an April 27 article.

What has the cast said about Dune: Part Two?

Don't Worry Darling star Florence Pugh is one of the newest additions to the cast of Dune: Part Two. The actress recently opened up to Vanity Fair about working alongside Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, and Austin Butler in the highly-anticipated followed up where she gushed about the bond she shares with each of the notable actors. "To do Dune with those specific actors at the front, like Timmy and Zendaya and Austin — they are remarkable people, number one, and unbelievable actors, number two. They're stars in their own ways, not in the cliché way of using the word," she explained. "They're just — they're sparkly people. I 'm now lucky enough to call them all my friends, which is super exciting." Florence continued to dish on the connection she shares with her co-stars. "For me to be able to work with the "young Hollywood" of the moment, and them being beautiful people, and then have them on my phone when I want to text them — to see that that's the direction in which our industry is going is such a wonderful feeling."

Will Zendaya appear in Dune: Part Two?

Euphoria star Zendaya had a very brief yet impactful appearance in Dune: Part One as Chani. Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve revealed to Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast that the actress will be back and have a bigger role in the upcoming sequel. "For Zendaya, I will say Part One was a promise," he began. "I know that we saw a glimpse of her in Part One, but in Part Two, she'll have a prominent part."

He also shared brief insight about the actress's storyline and revealed what he's most looking forward to. "We will follow Timothée [Chalamet] and Zendaya on their adventures in the desert," the acclaimed director added. "That’s the thing that excited me most about going back to Arrakis is to spend time with those characters again."

Dune star Timothée Chalamet also opened up about what viewers can expect for Zendaya's upcoming appearance in Dune: Part Two. During an interview with Variety, the actor beamed, "She hasn’t wrapped yet, and it’s amazing. She’s bringing exactly what she brought to the first one — which was incredible — but in greater abundance." Timothée also dished on the bond they've created while filming both Dune movies. "And she’s really become a sister. I’m so grateful to count her as a partner and a sister and a friend."

What else will Dune: Part Two be about?

Although there weren't any post-credits scenes to hint at future plots for the film franchise, on July 18, Warner Bros. and Legendary released a full synopsis for the sequel.

"This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee," the description reads, per Variety.

In a 2022 interview with Empire, Villeneuve teased some of the plot in saying that while Dune focused primarily on Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit, Part Two will explore some other characters.

"It's like a chess game. Some new characters will be introduced in the second part, and a decision I made very early on was that this first part would be more about Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit and his experience of being in contact for the first time with a different culture," he said. "Second part, there will be much more Harkonnen stuff."

Actor Dave Bautista echoes Villeneuve's sentiment, telling Collider on January 30, 2023 that the new film improves the first one in several ways. "This is so amped up from the first film. The first film was just an introduction to what this film is. There's just so much going on, it's so much more cutthroat and political and intense. And there are moments of levity where [there are] some funny moments, and they're kind of absurd humor, but there are those moments," he said.

When will Dune: Part Two be released?

The follow-up to Denis Villeneuve's Dune will hit theaters sooner than expected. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. revealed that Dune: Part Two will open on November 3, 2023, which is two weeks ahead of its original November 17 release date. The sequel will be exclusively hitting theaters, meaning that fans will have to head to the big screen to catch the film, as there is no HBO Max release confirmed at this time for Dune: Part Two.

Has Dune: Part Two started filming?

On December 13, Timothée announced on Instagram that Dune: Part Two had finished filming. "DUNE 2 WRAPPED (with desert dad!!)" the actor captioned the behind-the-scenes photo of him and Oscar Isaac, who plays Duke Leto Atreides.

Previously, Deadline reported on July 18 that production on Dune: Part Two had officially started. According to the outlet, the movie was filmed in various cities and countries, including Budapest, Hungary, Abu Dhabi, Jordan, and Italy.

Before the sequel's confirmation, Villeneuve dished on how excited he was to get started on future follow-ups."[If] there's enthusiasm and the movie is greenlit sooner [rather] than later, I will say that I will be ready to shoot in 2022 for sure. 2022, for sure. I would love [to] because I am ready to go," he explained to Nerdist.

Excited about a second film, Villeneuve added, "And I will say that I would love to bring it to the screen as soon as possible, but we know [with] the first film, I really had time to make sure that it was exactly the way I wanted it to be. And I would love to have the same feeling when I make the second part. So that would be the priority. More quality will be the priority."

Have any new cast members been announced?

While most of the supporting cast is expected to return, there will likely be new additions in Dune: Part Two.

Elvis star Austin Butler also joins the case in the role of Feyd-Rautha, who is the nephew of Baron Harkonnen, according to Deadline. The report suggests that the character may be just as cruel as his uncle, and it's a significant role to live up to, as Sting played Feyd-Rautha in the 1984 David Lynch-directed version of Dune.

Austin dished to Josh Horowitz about landing the role during the most recent episode of Happy Sad Confused. According to the Elvis star, he didn't even have to audition for the role. Austin was offered the role of Feyd-Rutha one week after having lunch with Dune director Denis Villeneuve.

"Denis was in town, I was in LA at the time, and Denis just asked me for coffee," Austin recounted. "We really hit it off, and we just talked a lot about how we liked to work. We talked about the part and how I would approach it, and then he said, “You know, I’m going to dream on this.” A week later, Austin received a call from the director who said, “I would like you to join me on Arrakis.”

Per Variety, Don't Worry Darling and Midsommar star Florence Pugh will play Princess Irulan Corrino, a "royal who becomes romantically entangled with Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides." The publication notes that it's a "critical" role with the potential to grow if the Dune cinematic universe expands in the future. Florence also starred alongside Timothée in Little Women, so this will be a legendary reunion.

Other new cast members include Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli, per the film's IMDb page.

How many Dune films will there be?

According to Nerdist, there could be several Dune follow-ups. "The thing I envision is the adaptation of two books, Dune and Dune Messiah. We decided to split the first novel in two, so now we are at three movies. Those movies are very long to make. For my mental sanity, I decided to just dream about three movies," Villeneuve shared with the outlet.
