Mandy Moore Shares Son Gus' Diagnosis After Health Scare

Mandy Moore's son is having a rough go of it this week.
The This is Us star shared via her Instagram Stories yesterday, July 28, that her oldest child, 2-year-old August, who they call Gus, had woken up with a "crazy rash" last Saturday.
"It's all over his legs and feet (ouch) and the backs of his arms, but nowhere else," she wrote over a picture showing the boy's splotchy legs.
They thought at first that it might be an eczema flare-up or something like poison oak and tried whatever they could to relieve the itchiness at home. Finally, they bounced from urgent care to a pediatrician to a dermatologist to a pediatric dermatologist, where the tot was diagnosed with Gianotti-Crosti syndrome.
According to Mount Sinai, the condition's specific cause isn't known, but it's been linked to other infections, such as hepatitis B or other viruses. The rash isn't treated, rather the underlying condition is.
Unfortunately, in Gus's case, it doesn't seem to be caused by a virus, so the only thing to do is stifle the symptoms with cortisone cream and Benadryl until the rash recedes, usually within three to eight weeks.
Despite the itchiness, Moore wrote that Gus has been a "rockstar."
"Sometimes you feel so helpless (and yes I'm ever so grateful it's only an itchy skin condition)," she explained. "Kids are resilient and as long as he's smiling through it, we are a-okay."
The actress shares Gus with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, along with 9-month-old baby Ozzie.
