Mandy Moore’s Monochromatic Makeup for the 2018 Emmys Was Created With This One Eye Shadow Palette

The 2018 Emmy Awards are underway and even though the red carpet can seem like a sea of over-the-top glitz, there's something to be said about a beautifully understated minimal makeup look (generally: wow). Usually reserved for NYFW, on the red carpet it's so refreshing. Just ask makeup artist Jenn Streicher who created Mandy Moore's beautiful warm, bronze-y monochromatic makeup look on the This Is Us actress. “I really wanted Mandy’s look to be beautiful, but in a really toned-down way," Streicher says about the machinations behind its creation.

"We usually prepare in advance with Pinterest boards and talk about it a lot," Jenn Streicher mentions, about how she and Mandy usually ideate makeup looks. "But Mandy was in Hawaii all last week and just got back yesterday. There wasn't a lot of time for preparation and we didn't want to take away from the dress." Rodarte worked closely with Moore for the big night. "I loved her Rodarte dress and created a monochromatic look to highlight this without taking away from the dress,” said Streicher.

For the record, it's this dress:

First of all, that skin. That skin tho. It's so glowy and radiant. Streicher prepped Mandy’s skin with Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Serum followed by Lancôme Énergie De Vie Day Cream. Moore's skin was primed with Lancôme La Base Pro Pore Eraser before applying Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Liquid Foundation in 260. (Streicher says she sprayed a BeautyBlender with Lancôme Fix it Forget it Setting Spray for a dewier finish.)

For the blush, Streicher two shades from the Proenza Schouler for Lancôme Chroma Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Warm Chroma, applying two of the burnt orange shades from the bottom row of the eye palette to Mandy’s cheeks. For her highlight, a light dusting with a fan brush of Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter in 05 Sparking Peche did the trick.

For the eyes, Streicher created a burnt orange and burgundy smoky eye using that same Proenza Schouler for Lancôme Chroma Eyeshadow Palette, using two of the darker brown shades, and the lighter nude colors on the crease and below the eye. Lancôme Big Lashes Extension Fibers and Monsieur Big mascara top off the eye.

And on her lips, Mandy is wearing Lancôme L’Absolue Rouge Lipstick in 237 Timide, and Streicher pressed one of the dark bronze, burnt orange shades from the Proenza Schouler for Lancôme Chroma Eyeshadow Palette on to her lips for a matte effect.

Streicher said she sent Moore to the red carpet with the Proenza x Lancôme eye shadow palette on hand for touch-ups. "Mandy has amazing skin. I barely put any foundation on her usually, and when I do it's usually hydrating and more emollient formulas," she says. Now, about how red carpet makeup requires some maintenance: "For red carpet when it's hot and sweaty, I have to use a drier, more matte formula and just...cross my fingers."
