Mandy Moore has worn many hats throughout her multidecade career in entertainment, including actress, singer and songwriter. Now, she can add one more line item to her résumé: childrenswear designer.

The mother of two has collaborated with Gymboree, a subsidiary of The Children’s Place, for a holiday collection of boys’ and girls’ clothes for babies and toddlers titled Gymboree XO Mandy Moore. The limited-edition capsule collection launched at Gymboree stores and on gymboree.com on Tuesday.

Moore has been a Children’s Place partner for more than a year and is a brand ambassador for the company. Over that time, she’s had many conversations with the creatives and executives at the company about how much she loves the brand and plans for the upcoming holiday season, she said.

“It was a natural evolution for me to do this collaboration and launch this holiday collection,” Moore told WWD. “I spent last winter on the East Coast with my family, and I had a newborn baby. Although it was a pretty mild East Coast winter, I got to [experience] winter through my children’s eyes for the first time. My sons, Gus and Ozzie, inspired many of my designs for the collaboration.”

The 45-piece collection ranges in size from newborn to size 12 and XS to XXXL for adult pieces, which include baby layettes and blankets, sweaters, pull-on corduroys, leggings, skirts, dresses, sherpa-lined jackets, pajamas and matching family-style sets with moms and dads in mind. Price points for the collection range from $19.95 to $139.95.

Moore’s relationship with Gymboree goes back to when she was a child and her mother would get her and her siblings Gymboree clothes for Christmas and Easter. Gymboree was also one of her family’s regular stops at the mall when she was growing up, she said.

“Getting new Gymboree clothes was always a special occasion for me,” Moore said. “As a parent now, I recognize the joy of special moments. My husband is amenable when I want to do the matching family style set thing and right now my kids are too young to object. There’s a small sliver of time parents get when our kids are this young where we get to play dress up with them like this. Dressing up is such a fun part of parenthood that I hadn’t thought about until I had my own kids.”

She added, “Often when I dress my sons up, they end up looking like miniature versions of their dad, but so it goes. Neither of my sons are big hat fans, so that proved a challenge especially when we were on the East Coast in winter. I had to keep telling my older son he was going to get sick without a hat on.”

Aside from fashion, with the ongoing SAG strike, Moore has been using the time away from the film set to focus on her health and family. She’s also returned to her other passion, music.

Moore’s husband, Taylor Goldsmith, is also a singer and songwriter, in addition to being a guitarist and record producer. He’s best known as the frontman for American folk rock band The Dawes. While Moore hasn’t announced any concrete song projects, she did hint that she’s been using her downtime to play around with creating music alongside her husband.

In the meantime, she hopes that moms, dads and kids can enjoy her latest Gymboree project. “My collection with Gymboree is for everyone — moms who love to dress their littles in the most adorable outfits like me, families who match and make every moment memorable — gifters, grandparents, every one,” she said.
