'The Mandalorian' Strongly Suggested That Mando Has Sex
Light spoilers for The Mandalorian's sixth episode below.
There were quite a lot of sexual innuendos in the latest Mandalorian episode!
It sounds like...Mando... does not take his helmet off when the time comes to do you know what.
Is this the way?
We haven't even heard The Mandalorian's actual name on screen yet, but the show's sixth episode is eagerly encouraging us to think about the badass bounty hunter's tussles between the intergalactic bedsheets. The episode introduced Xi'an, a Twi-Lek mercenary (think Jabba's slave Oola from Return of the Jedi) played by Natalia Tena with whom he clearly has some romantic history with. And quite frankly, as cool as the character played by Pedro Pascal is, I have a lot of questions about The Mandalorian and how he does sex. A lot of questions.
As soon as Xi'an enters the picture, there's some tension. A flirty back and forth between the two leads to an eventual comment from Bill Burr's Mayfeld: "Do we need to leave the room or something?" Within a moment, references to Xi'an's being "heartbroken" and the pair being referred to as "lovebirds" make things abundantly clear.
But as if that wasn't enough, we get more. Once they all board Mando's ship, Mayfeld again starts teasing about The Mandalorian never taking off his helmet."You ever see his face?" he asks Xi'an, before she smiles, gasps, and says "A lady never tells." Stunning stuff for Star Wars, and now the gears are turning.
We know from a few weeks back that Mando hasn't taken his helmet off in the presence of anyone else since he was a kid—This is the way. If he did, that would mean that he could never return to his people, the community that's embraced him. This was another situation where our man was mighty flirty, that time spending a lot of time charming Omera, a village's single mother. But that was all it was. But, clearly... something happened between he and Xi'an; they were...spending time together, and it seems pretty clear that the helmet remained atop his head for the duration.
We know that The Mandalorian is already a Star Wars spinoff, but I think this whole thing warrants an Adventures of Mando and Xi'an spinoff to the spinoff. I don't think we simply want to know what happened between these two, but rather we need to know what happened between these two. If Mando's helmet remains on when it's sexytime, what's that like? Is it a Leonardo DiCaprio situation? Is there so much mystery and aura around our as-yet-unnamed Mandalorian that he can just pull stuff like that off?
If there were entire movie sequences based on single Han Solo lines from A New Hope, surely we can get some sort of explanation on how Mando does his thing. Because we need to know. Or maybe we don't. As good a writer as Jon Favreau might be, it's hard to imagine anyone writing a more satisfying story than the ones we're collectively making happen in our heads.
