Usually, when you're selling something on eBay or another website, you're just happy to get some old items off your hands (and make some money off of them). Matt Shoukry of St. Louis, Missouri, recently boxed up an old VCR that he'd listed on eBay and sent it to a buyer in Phoenix without thinking much about it, according to ABC News. A few days later, he was surprised to find a letter in his mailbox with his address handwritten by the sender.

The letter was a thank-you note from the eBay user who bought the VCR. As it turns out, the purchase was far more meaningful than Shoukry could ever have imagined.

The 86-year-old man explained that he'd recently found many VHS tapes and wanted to see what was on them. After visiting eBay for the first time (aw!), he purchased Shoukry's VCR and praised the condition it was in when it arrived. "The VCR looks new and unused. Amazing," the man wrote. "Thank you so much for your care, your efforts, and your promptness."

As if it weren't kind enough that the man took the time to thank Shoukry personally, the next part of the letter is sweet enough to bring tears to your eyes. The man tells Shoukry that he was able to watch videos of his retirement party, wedding, ski trips, and family. "Each one more fun than the last. All thanks to your generous selling of the VHS player," he wrote.

It doesn't get much cuter than that. Shoukry posted the letter on Reddit and told ABC, "I wanted people to get the nice feeling I had when I read the letter. I didn't realize that so many people would get the same nice feeling I had."

Many Reddit users commented that the letter made them cry, and suggested that Shoukry frame the letter as a keepsake. He told ABC that he plans to write back to the man, and tell him how much of an impact his letter has had on him and thousands of people online.
