Man slammed over 'creepy' offer to pay female neighbor to cook his meals

A 31-year-old man is receiving backlash online after admitting he asked his female neighbor to cook his meals for him.

The man, who posted his story anonymously on Reddit, refers to himself as a "single guy who lives alone in an apartment complex." He goes on to describe his neighbor across the hall — whom he refers to as "Katie," although he says he doesn't know her real name.

"We exchange hellos but aren't friendly, which is how it is with most of my neighbors," the post reads.

The man then explains that he does not know how to cook and has recently had less money to spend on takeout orders, adding that he would like to be eating healthier meals.

"This is where Katie comes in. I can always smell her cooking in the hall and it always smells amazing (I know it isn't the other person at our end of our hall cause it's a single old man)," his post continues.

"So I got the idea that I'd offer to give her some money each week to cook a little extra and bring it over to me (or I can pick it up from her!) at night. She's cooking anyway and then I'd have varied presumably delicious food," he goes on to say.

He then describes "Katie's" response to his request, noting that she originally told him she was too busy. The man wrote that he asked her again a few days later, offering more money than before.

"She said she was sure and that it was rude to ask, and that she isn't a housekeeper for hire and I should get a housekeeper if that's what I want. She also called me 'a stranger' even though we have talked in the halls before," the post reads.

The man's post said the response made him feel like a "big jerk," and he admitted he was "a little mad" that his neighbor's reaction made him feel "creepy." He ends the post by asking, "AIAA [Am I an a******?]."

His post has gained more than 6,000 comments in just two days, with many people responding negatively to the story.

"Yo, are a 100% bonafide a******," the top-rated comment, from a user named D20Lo, reads. "You're clearly making her extremely uncomfortable. You've caused her to feel like she has to walk on eggshells when leaving and entering her own home."

"She might even feel like you're monitoring her movement in and out of the apartment in order to ambush her about cooking for you, which will obviously creep her the f*** out and make her feel uncomfortable in her own home," the comment goes on to say.

D20Lo's comment continues by saying that the man should "leave her the [explitive] alone."

Other commenters gave similar responses, telling the Reddit user he should stop bothering his neighbor.

"I absolutely love that he is offended that she called him a stranger. He doesn’t know her first name! Buddy. Wow. Leave this poor woman alone," another commenter wrote.

"It’s just so incredibly entitled to think, 'Oh man I don’t know how to cook so instead of learning... I’ll take a woman’s labor as my right and make my neighbor into my personal chef,'" another posted.
