A Washington state man had a cheeky response to seeing his own mug shot on the Richland WA Police Department’s Facebook page for “Wanted Wednesday,” a recurring series featuring photos of wanted persons on the WAPD’s social media account.

Anthony Akers, 38, had a warrant issued for his arrest after he failed to comply with the terms of his probation, according to Richland Police Sgt. Drew Florence. While the WAPD hopes that “Wanted Wednesday” will lead to eagle-eyed civilians reporting the sought-after individual, the police got lucky when Akers, upon seeing he made it as that week’s Wednesday mug shot, commented on his own photo: “Calm down, im going to turn myself in.”

Even after responding on Facebook to the department, Akers attempted to ghost the police officers by not showing up for their planned meeting.

Hey Anthony! We haven’t seen you yet. Our business hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday,” the department wrote. “Of course if you need a ride you can call non-emergency… and we will pick you up.”

Surprisingly, Akers replied again, “thank you, tying up a couple loose ends since i will probably be in there for a month. Should be in there in the next 48 hours.”

But come Monday, he still had not turned himself in.

It appeared Akers got cold feet. He wrote:

Dear RPD, its not you, its me. I obviously have commitment issues. I apologize for standing you up, but let me make it up to you. I will be there no later then lunchtime tomorrow, I know you have no reason to believe me after what i did to you, but I promise that if i dont make it on my own by lunchtime tomorrow I will call for a ride to assist me with my commitment issues. Thank you in advance to your response if you are patiently giving me another chance with us, I know i dont deserve it.
P.S. You’re beautful

The police department decided to pen another missed connection.

Morose Monday. Dear Anthony, is it us? Last Wednesday we reached out to you as ‘wanted’. You replied and even said you were going to turn yourself in,” the post read. “We waited, but you didn’t show. After you stood us up, we reached out again- this time offering you a ride. You replied and said you needed 48 hours. The weekend came and went. We are beginning to think you are not coming.”

A week after the initial posting, Akers made good on his word, turning himself in and sharing a selfie for all his new fans in the comment section.
