Man gets pulled over for driving over 130 mph to get McDonald’s burger

U.K. police pulled over a speeding driver in West Yorkshire after they caught him driving almost twice the speed limit.

When asked what the driver thought he was doing and where he was going, he responded that he was in search of a McDonald’s drive-thru to get a burger for the first time since quarantine started in March.

McDonald’s restaurants have recently reopened throughout England for drive-thru orders only. The driver had traveled from Bolton to Bradford — almost 43 miles apart — in search for a burger.

The West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit shared the story on Twitter.

The speed limit for the area was 70 mph. Police also reported that the man did not have insurance either.

As cities worldwide slowly begin to reopen, several McDonald’s locations are advocating to keep their limited menus. The franchise opted for a basic menu to accommodate smaller workforces and closed dining rooms, a change that many employees want to keep.

Blake Casper, chairman of the National Owners Association (NOA), told Fox News that with a limited menu, McDonald’s service was the fastest it has ever been.

In response to quarantine, McDonald’s stopped serving all-day breakfast and more “complex” menu items like salads, grilled chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders. After seeing the success of the chain amid the pandemic, higher-ups at the company are thinking that larger menus ultimately slow service and hurt sales.

“The limited menu and ease of operations are allowing our teams to focus and provide blazing fast service,” Casper told Fox News. “We are convinced. Keeping our menus simplified is your NOA’s number one priority.”

McDonald’s recently had stated that all-day breakfast and other items would be returning once restaurants could start reopening.
