Man Bravely Jumps Into Ocean to Rescue Dog Who Jumped Over Miami Sea Wall

At 7 am on Thursday morning a dog in Biscayne Bay ran straight for a sea wall barrier, jumped over it, and had to be rescued by a good samaritan who jumped in after him.

A local resident captured the entire rescue on her cell phone camera.

The TikTok video was shared by @TheTodayShow account and viewers are praising Blake Lazarus and this wonderful rescue.

One person said, "People are still good!" Another added, "Thank you for saving him! Blake is a hero!"

Here's a longer video of the story that shows Blake Lazarus (who is absolutely adorable, by the way!) take off his shirt and jump into the bay to save the poor dog. To make this story even more amazing, Lazarus is currently recovering from elbow surgery. We are also right there with resident Sofia Ghodsi who filmed the entire rescue from her apartment that was 23 stories above who can be heard on the video saying, "Oh no no no no no!"

It's so adorable when you see Lazarus jump in after the dog and you hear Ghodsi triumphantly exclaim "Yes!"

Lazarus pulled the dog to safety and a police officer helped both the dog and his hero out of the water.

WSVN7 spoke to Lazarus who said, "I love dogs and would hate to see anything happen to a dog so, again, if it was my dog, I would hope someone would do the same,”

Here's Why You Should Never Attempt to Rescue a Drowning Dog Yourself

Attempting to rescue a drowning dog can be extremely dangerous for both the dog and the person attempting the rescue. Dogs may become extremely frightened in these situations and struggle in the water, increasing the chance of both you and the dog drowning.

Water conditions can cause things such as strong currents, undertows, or murky water, and can make it difficult to locate and safely rescue a drowning dog. Especially one that is panicking. When a human tries to swim against these strong currents, they can also quickly become exhausted and in danger of going under.

The most important thing you can do if your dog is drowning, or you see another dog drowning, is try and remain calm. Immediately call emergency services or animal control to report the situation and seek help from the professionals who are trained to know what to do in these situations. Thank goodness that there was a policeman there who helped pull both Lazarus and the dog to safety.

You can attempt to find something on shore to help the dog, like a flotation device, stick or something else for them to grab onto while you try and coax the dog to swim to safety.

If you do manage to get the dog out before rescue crews arrive, once the dog is safely out of the water, provide any necessary first aid like dog CPR or comfort while waiting for professional help to arrive.

The most important thing is keeping both you, and the dog, safe.

What an amazing rescue! We need more good people like Lazarus in the world!
