Mammoth Mountain Making 'Explosive' Progress On New State Of The Art Chairlift

Mammoth Mountain, California is still open for skiing and snowboarding, but crews from chairlift manufacturer Doppelmayr have been working for weeks on removing and replacing the Canyon Express (Chair #16).

The Canyon Express is the main thoroughfare for skiers and snowboarders out of the resort's Canyon Lodge. Check out the awesome highlight video below of how the construction project is going so far:

Caption: "Take a look at the progress from the past month on the on the brand new Canyon Express (16) at Mammoth Mountain Canyon Lodge. The new lift will be a state-of-the-art Doppelmayr D-Line Series 6-Pack detachable high-speed chairlift featuring an enclosed top and bottom terminal. Demolition of the old lift is complete and the lower foundation has been poured. The new lift will offer skiers and riders quicker access to first track powder days, with more room for your crew to join the ride."

The new Canyon Express will be a top of the line lift from Austrian company Doppelmayr.

The seat capacity will be upgraded from 4 to 6 skiers, and while the ride time will remain roughly the same, the lift is expected to transport an additional 800 skiers per hour. That's a big deal for a mountain like Mammoth that can draw crowds on weekends and holidays.

The new Canyon Express is expected to be completed in time for the Winter '23-'24 season. Stay tuned in with us here at Powder Magazine for all Mammoth news and updates.
