Mammoth Mountain Closes Popular Chairlift But Ski Season Rolls On

Mammoth Mountain, California is one of two outdoor ski resorts still open in North America. The resort joins Timberline Lodge, Oregon thanks to a record 700+ inches of snow recorded at Mammoth's Main Lodge throughout the season.

Mammoth is preparing to stay open for skiing and snowboarding through the end of July, but is slowly tapering off lifts and terrain availability as the summer heats melts out the lower elevation snowpack.

Mammoth announced this past weekend that Stump Alley (Chair #2) and The Mill base area will be closed for the remainder of the summer ski season. Announcement below.

Full Caption: "⛷️Operations Update🏂 Temperatures are rising and we continue to shred deeper into summer. The last day of operations for skiing and riding on Stump Alley (2) will be this Sunday, July 9. The Mill will also close for the season on Sunday after ski operating hours. Stump Alley (2) saw one of its longest seasons ever and it sure has been a fun one. Starting Monday, July 10 all skiing and riding will be based out of Main Lodge with Broadway (1), Face Lift (3), Unbound (6), Discovery (11), Chair 23 and the Panorama Gondola all continuing to spin.

We will focus our cat work and grooming efforts to keep top-to-bottom riding going as longs as possible into the month of July and offer the best summer riding we have ever seen on the daily. See you on the hill!"

It's sad that Stump Alley is done for the season, but there are still hundreds of acres of snow-covered terrain off Chair 23, the Gondola, and the other frontside lifts to be skied.

If you look at the map below, the majority of terrain accessible from the summit of the Gondola down to the Main Lodge is still open. It's unreal.
