Mammoth Mountain Begins Snowmaking To Prepare For Opening Day
This past weekend, on October 28th, Mammoth Mountain, California, announced that it had begun snowmaking operations, sharing a series of picturesque images by Chrisitan Pondella of the overnight snowmaking push.
Here's a closer look.
The snowmaking operation wasn't just for show, either. Mammoth plans to open in the very near future on November 10th (weather and conditions permitting, of course).
In an Instagram post shared earlier today, October 30th, Mammoth noted that the snowguns continued firing into this morning before a warming period set to arrive this week.
As for how this warming period will impact Mammoth Mountain's planned opening date, that's an open question. We're still 11 days from November 10th, so Mammoth has some wiggle room. It's all a matter of whether temperatures decide to cooperate or not.
Although I don't know that Mammoth pushing back its opening date a week or two would be the biggest deal -- last season, the resort was open until August 6th, meaning there's been comparatively little time off snow for local skiers.
That said, I, like probably every other skier, am rooting for Mammoth to hit that November 10th mark. Keep those snow dances up, people!
