Maltese-Shih-Tzu Mix Totally Outs Herself Getting Into Trouble with Her Mischievous Smile

When we smile at each other it's friendly, when a dog smiles at you, you might want to think twice. Or that's what we believe after seeing the clip that one woman shared. She caught her Maltese-Shih-Tzu mix giving her the most suspicious smile. And the reason why will make any pet owner roll their eyes.

The dog mama knew she caught her Malshi doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing. She just didn't know what it was yet.

"Either you're smiling at me or you have something you shouldn't," the mom (@fritopawsmunchkin) said to her Maltese-Shih Tzu mix Munchkin from behind the camera.

The second she stepped forward to investigate, the dog bolted. Hmmm so we guess we have our answer, huh?

"No you have something, cause that's not a smile," the woman determined.

Thinking she could somehow get her stubborn Malshi to drop whatever it was hiding in its mouth, she offered to give the dog a treat. And you can probably see how this ends. The dog snapped up both the treat and kept her prize in her mouth until her mom was able to nab it. It was a price tag sticker. Oh brother.

"Wish it was a smile," she joked.

Munchkin's fast one had people on the internet cracking up. "That's a guilty run away," one commenter teased. "The way the treat was stolen," someone else wrote. "They always act like they found a million dollars and we are trying to rob them," a third person kidded. "The stop in the middle of the floor to wait for the treat instead of approaching you is sending me," one woman chimed in.

Why Dogs Hide Things

Whether it be in their mouths or in the house. Dogs do love to hide things. It's just in their nature! Dogs that hide are usually doing so because they have an instinct to guard or hoard. Not because they're trying to get under our skin.

It's like when squirrels bury nuts during the winter. Sometimes dogs will hide an object to keep it around for later. And while hoarding could indicate that a dog is stressed, it also is a survival strategy too. Back before domestication, if dogs had a surplus of food they would take it somewhere where it could be preserved and protected. In a domestic setting, dogs hide object to protect them from being stolen. Who knew!

So there you have it. Your dog likes to have their little secrets — even though it sort of drives the rest of us crazy.
