Major Upgrades Approved For New York Ski Resort

North Creek Ski Bowl, one of two base areas at New York's Gore Mountain, is getting a facelift.

Last week, Gore Mountain announced that, in partnership with the Town of Johnsburg and the state of New York, it plans to begin the construction of a new chairlift and lodge at North Creek in 2024.

The new chairlift is a quad upgrade to the existing three-seater Hudson Chair, traveling from the North Creek Ski Bowl base to the top of Little Gore Mountain. Gore plans to unveil the new Hudson Quad for public access during the 2024-2025 ski season.

The lodge, slated for completion in 2025, will replace North Creek's historic lodge, which burned down in a 1999 fire. The facility will be 18,300 square feet, featuring a restaurant and two patio levels.

Gore Mountain is one of three state-owned New York ski areas operated by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA). The other two ORDA-operated ski areas are Whiteface Mountain and Belleayre Mountain.

In a press release, ORDA's CEO, Micheal Pratt, conveyed excitement about the planned North Creek Ski Bowl developments:

"As we approach the 90th anniversary of the first snow train arriving in North Creek, we are excited to build upon the incredible history. The Ski Bowl is home to one of the first commercial ski areas and ski patrols in the United States. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Town of Johnsburg as we work together in enhancing the regional economy.”
