You saw “Silence Breakers” Ashley Judd and Taylor Swift on the cover of Time’s 2017 “Person of the Year” issue, but there’s one small yet meaningful detail you likely missed.
Below Swift and to the right of Judd, former Uber engineer Susan Fowler, corporate lobbyist Adama Iwu and agricultural worker Isabel Pascual, there rests an enigmatic elbow. No, it wasn’t a Photoshop accident. Cutting the remainder of the mystery person’s body out of the photo was an intentional decision to represent the women who have yet to speak out about their own sexual assault experiences.
According to the full “Person of the Year” story, the velvet-jacket-clad elbow belongs to a 28-year-old hospital worker who experienced harassment and chose to stay anonymous “as an act of solidarity to represent all those who could not speak out.”
