The rippling effects of the coronavirus are taking their toll on more than just health. Industries across the board are suffering losses as consumers take precautionary measures to mitigate their exposure to the virus, which includes limiting travel and unnecessary activities outdoors. The import/export industry is sustaining multiple blows as ports close and production slows overseas, particularly in China, where the virus originated.
While experts say a majority of infected individuals experience mild symptoms, the virus is still contagious and sometimes fatal while no vaccine is yet available. Health professionals have recommended social distancing — staying at least 6 feet from other people and avoiding areas with large, enclosed crowds.
