A Major Dog Food Recall Was Expanded and Now Includes These 8 Brands
Dog owners: You'll want to take note of the FDA's recent update to a dog food recall. Several dog food brands are now included in a recall alert for potentially containing a dangerous amount of vitamin D. While the vitamin is an essential nutrient for dogs, too much of it can cause kidney failure or death. Tests conducted on samples of some of these products show as much as approximately 70 times the intended amount of vitamin D.
The brands now included in the recall list are as follows:
Nutrisca - Chicken and Chickpea Dry Dog Food
Natural Life Pet Products - Chicken & Potato Dry Dog Food
Sunshine Mills - multiple varieties
ANF Lamb and Rice Dry Dog Food
Lidl Orlando Grain-Free Chicken & Chickpea Superfood Recipe Dog Food
Kroger Abound Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe Dog Food
Elm Pet Foods - multiple varieties
Ahold Delhaize - multiple varieties
For specific products and bag weights under the recall, see the full list provided by the FDA here. If you have any of those products in your home, the FDA says not to feed them to your dog. Retailers are advised not to sell those bags.
Dogs who've consumed too much may experience vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. If your pet has been eating a recalled bag and/or is showing these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately.
According to the FDA, this list may not be complete, so check back for updates on any additional recalls.
