A Major Character Just Returned on 'Outlander' and I'm Shook

From Harper's BAZAAR

So much is happening on Outlander I can barely contain myself-much like Jamie's curly wisps of hair, which refuse to be contained by his low ponytail! There were some truly huge reveals on Sunday's episode, including the return of a major character, an update on Brianna's journey back in time, and an unexpected death. Here's what made our jaws drop, Roger style.

And the passage of time has done him all sorts of favors because he's now officially a silver fox. Turns out Murtagh's been working as a blacksmith in a town roughly a three-day ride from Jamie and Claire's new home, and he also happens to be a Regulator. In case you've forgotten literally everything you learned in high school history class, The War of the Regulation was an uprising by landowners who opposed corrupt taxation. Murtagh tries to get his old godson to join up, but considering Jamie's a land owner working directly with the crown, he declines.

But before you assume this is the last we'll see of Murtagh, please note he shows up at Jamie and Claire's place at the very end of the episode. Looks like the old team's back together! Emphasis on "old" due to everyone having gray hair now.

P.S. In other slightly boring "Jamie's Land: An Endless Saga No One Really Cares About" news, no one wants to live on his settlement because they're worried about unfair taxes and zzzz, sorry I just fell asleep.

Yep, the end of this episode reveals that Brianna dresses in her best 18th-century outfit and successfully goes through the stones to find her parents, explaining to Roger via a note that she'd discovered the exact same info he did: That Claire and Jamie are in imminent danger.

Meanwhile, poor Roger-who's inexplicably and questionably taken to wearing turtlenecks under his button down shirts-reads Brianna's note while weeping silently to himself. Please join me in the hopes that he under no circumstances writes a song about this and forces us all to watch him sing it.

There's definitely been an element of magical mystery on Outlander this season, from Claire seeing a ghost a few episodes back to Adawehi predicting that an upcoming death wouldn't be Claire's fault. And now our buddy Jamie's out here having extremely specific dreams about birth marks on Brianna's body. Clearly Jamie's sensing his daughter's passage through the stones, and I'm fully convinced he has powers-there, I said it!

Claire and Jamie may have made peace with the Cherokee tribe, but their neighbors? Not so much. The tension peaks after Claire helps a German family, the Muellers, safely welcome a baby girl into the world. Everything seems great/adorable, until the family fully flips when the Cherokee stop by to drink water from their stream. Except, uh, it's not really their stream, is it?

Claire manages to convince patriarch Herr Mueller that the Cherokee mean no harm, but everything falls apart a few day later when his family (including the sweet new baby) contracts the measles and die. Because he's clearly pretty paranoid, Herr Mueller is convinced the Cherokee cursed his water and scalps Claire's friend Adawehi in revenge. Then the Cherokee burn down his home and kill him as retribution, so no, thing's aren't going great.

In case you're desperate for romance between Claire and Jamie, here's the bad news: There were no woodland sex scenes this week. The good news is that the duo seem more in love than ever, and Jamie spent much of this episode trying to find a silversmith to stamp Claire's name on his mother's candlesticks as a gift. What a guy!

This could turn out to be nothing, or it could turn out to be all kinds of something. Either way, the local silversmith's wife is extremely thirsty, and not for water. This woman is parched for Jamie, and spent her few scenes in Sunday's episode overtly lusting after him while he looked awkward. Keep an eye out on her, that's all I'm saying.
