Maisie Williams Matched Her Hair to Her Outfit, and Now We Want to Do the Same

Maisie Williams attended Wimbledon yesterday wearing a frock that matched her tresses. The pink Ralph Lauren dress — perfectly posh for a tennis match — was given an edgy twist by Maisie's perfectly matched blush-colored hair. A pink sweater was tied around her waist. She didn't go overboard with the pink hue, and chose to accessorize with brand-spanking-new white kicks and an orange handbag. We’re already lining up for a remake of Legally Blonde starring Maisie: Legally Pink.

Maisie’s beau, communications director Reuban Selby, took her cue and matched his navy-blue buzz cut to his patchwork blue suit jacket. And they’re not the only stars to partake in the trend of matching your hair color to outfits. Last month, Zendaya debuted red locks, which she purposely matched to her outfit. On an Instagram post of her wearing a satin maroon coat and matching dress, Zendaya wrote, “I like to base my outfits off my hair color.” A trend was born.

Billie Eilish is also known to consistently match her outfits with vibrantly pigmented hair. She’s worn her signature oversize looks in blue to match her blue slushie hair color. And just this weekend, she matched her neon green roots (alien vibes!) to her hypebeast fit.

Technically, you can partake in this trend if you have a natural hair color (an all-black outfit if you have dark hair, camel tones if you’re a blonde), but the trend is A LOT more fun if you have a wacky hair color, like Megan Rapinoe’s lilac locks. So what are you waiting for?! Schedule an appointment at your salon ASAP, or run to the drugstore and pick up a rinse-out dye in bright pink so you can start wearing all pink ensembles a la Maisie.

It’s also worth noting that dressing in one color from head-to-toe (or should we say: hair-to-shoe) is in sync with one of the season’s hottest fashion trends. Take the Kenzo spring 2020 runway show, for example: Models walked in monochromatic pastel looks including green on green, purple on purple, and teal on teal. Why do we love this trend so much? Wearing an entire outfit comprised of one single hue makes getting dressed in the morning as simple as pie, and you never need to worry about not matching again! To make your outfits even more visually stimulating, try matching slightly different hues and different fabrics in one look.
