Maisie Wilen RTW Spring 2023

Maisie Schloss’ work evolves the question of what is real, mixing the real world with the digital one. Last season she went fully online showing her creations in holograph form, and spring sees her go CGI, but on the runway. “I just wanted to experience showing the clothes on a really clean runway,” she said backstage. But, for Schloss there is always a twist.

As guests entered her show space, they were bathed in a striking light, distilling all color into bright green hues, mimicking what you’d find on a film set, a live action green screen showcase. Used in film production to remain within a sound stage but depict disparate locations and sequences, Schloss used it to craft the mood for her digital print body-con offering, all meant to be manipulated in post production.

She introduced men’s pieces, but really her vibe is gender-fluid, using male models only to show the range of her work. Prints feature lens flares and exaggerated manipulated faces, representing the surreal, coming on perforated turtlenecks, trousers and tank tops; other looks were full catsuits with miniskirts. Schloss is always pushing to introduce new silhouettes, here dipping into dressier pieces with full length dresses. ”I’m expanding into this slightly more formal world,” she said.

Up next? She hinted that’d she’d really like to create accessories.
