Maine Ski Resort Is "Fired Up" As Snowmaking Begins

Click, click, click. You hear that? That's the sound of Sunday River, Maine, making its first big step towards opening for the ski season.

Earlier today, the resort shared images of its first proper snowmaking push. Game on!

A beautiful (and exciting!) sight, to be sure.

Here's a closer look courtesy of Sunday River.

Here's the 411 from Sunday River's mountain report tab:

"It's go time. Last night, our Mountain Ops team fired up our snowmaking system, pumping snow across the Jordan Bowl and Locke Peak. The countdown is officially on to the beginning of the 2023-24 season. Featuring brand-new opening plans, improved snowmaking, and the grand opening of the Barker 6, this will definitely be a year you don't want to miss...

Be sure to keep your eyes here for any and all updates as we continue to work towards our opening day. We can't wait to be back on snow with you all."

Go time, indeed. In the past week, the ski season has gained considerable momentum. Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, opened with the first chair of winter this past weekend, and Keystone Resort is firing up the lifts today for excited skiers and boarders.

Now, the East is getting in on the fun with heavy hitters like Sunday River kicking the snowmaking systems into gear. Folks, it's only a matter of time before we're all making those first turns.
