Maine Coon Cat Weighing in at 32 Pounds Is Bigger Than a Small Dog
The internet is cracking up over one woman's simply humungous Maine Coon Cat. Seriously, this thing was huge! And now people online can't stop making jokes about the cat's large size.
The woman shared her pet in response to an internet challenge to show off "massive cats." Okay, challenge accepted.
The woman, who is a breeder of Main Coon Cats and goes by @sassykoonz online, went off-screen to grab the cat — and needed two hands to carry the animal as she brought it onscreen.
The cat was almost as big as she was! She probably got a good workout in, although we really hope she didn't lift with her legs. The cat is pretty much dog sized. As she noted herself in the caption, the Main Coon was about 32 lbs. — that's the size of a small child. Welp, we guess she practically won this challenge, huh?
The comments section was definitely in agreement that the cat was giant, and they couldn't stop cracking up. "That’s a tax deduction!" joked one person. "That's not a cat....That's a roommate!!" someone else teased. "That’s the thing from the Never Ending Story," a third person chimed in. "You can’t just have a yeti roaming your house, ma’am!" one person exclaimed.
Typical Maine Coon Cat Size
A cat this big has to be an anomaly — right? Well for Maine Coon Cats it's sort of par for the course. These guys are all big! In fact Main Coons are known as some of the biggest domestic cats out there. Although there are certain cat breeds that are taller, like the Savannah or British Shorthair.
Most male Maine Coons can weigh anywhere from 18 to 22 lbs. While females weigh anywhere from 12 to 15. As for height, this can range dramatically. Some can be as short as 10 inches tall while others can be 16 inches high.
Length can also vary, although the world's largest Maine Coon cat was recorded as a whopping 48.5 inches long. In fact, Main Coons frequently top the Guinness World Records for world's longest cats.
If you're thinking about getting a Maine Coon, just keep their size in mind. Male or female, these cats are large creatures. You'll have to be pretty strong to pick them up and carry them. The benefits of a Maine Coon far outweigh their size, however. These cats are known to be gentle giants. They are extremely lovable, making them pretty much a perfect pet.
