If you’ve ever scrolled through social media for interior design inspiration, chances are that you’ve come across rooms with an ultra-smooth sofa and plush cushions, alongside side chairs that offer more of the same. A cozy rug is underfoot, and curtains ever-so-perfectly frame the windows. Everything looks effortlessly polished, especially curated, and thoughtfully laid out.

Chances are also that they’re from Maiden Home’s catalog of custom furniture.

What Is Maiden Home?

Founder Nidhi Kapur was in the midst of shopping for a new place she shared with her husband in New York City, trying to find furniture that was within their budget but still high-quality. She came up empty-handed, but that experience inspired her to launch Maiden Home in 2017 (at the same time they had their first-born son, no less!).

Maiden Home is a direct-to-consumer furniture company that sells pieces for the living room, dining room, and bedroom. The overall catalog appears just like the design inspiration on social media — sophisticated and timeless with a mix of clean lines and curved shapes, neutral shades, and warm wood accents — making it one of the go-to places for folks who are actively wanting to bring their Instagram grids to life.

Given Kapur’s background in business development at Birchbox, one of the first direct-to-consumer beauty brands, it’s no wonder that this company is adept at far-flung customer service. “Our customers are those who are looking to find investment pieces for their home — the pieces they see themselves living with for years, those that will stand the test of time both aesthetically and functionally,” Kapur told Jenni Kayne in 2019. “With that in mind, we’ve eschewed the fast-fashion approach, focusing on timeless styles with handcrafted details you’d typically see at much higher price points.”

Is Maiden Home Furniture Custom?

Maiden Home furniture is constructed on a made-to-order basis through a partnership it has with a North Carolina-based manufacturer. According to Kapur and the company, this partnership ensures that furniture is made with intention, in which each piece is expertly crafted to last with sustainable practices in the mix. All furniture is constructed without harmful chemicals, including cushions made from a soy-based foam and fabrics crafted without flame retardants.

Understandably then, the prices of big-ticket items like sofas and beds can be thousands of dollars, in keeping with this dedication to craftsmanship. Maiden Home recommends getting a range of swatches delivered to your home prior to your purchase, where you can feel materials like merino and performance linen, as well as double-check that the look and feel of your top contender complements the rest of your room’s design. And as is the case with custom furniture, don’t be surprised if wood tones, leather finishes, and fabric shades appear different than what’s online — colors will shift with availability. (You’ll want to note how the swatches appear in different natural light and against various paint colors too, as a general rule of thumb!)

Are There Any Maiden Home Stores?

There is a flagship store in New York City, where the furnishings are also designed, and everything is made in North Carolina.

Where Does Maiden Home Ship?

Maiden Home’s furniture currently ships to the continuous U.S. and some parts of Canada, with plans to expand in the future.

Does Maiden Home Offer Returns?

Yes, but with some caveats. You have 30 days to return furniture for a full refund; items that are “damaged, soiled, or excessively used” are subject to a fee of 10% of the purchase price, which goes toward the price of picking up and donating the product.

Maiden Home will not accept returns of items that don’t fit, which is especially important for large pieces. Let’s say you’ve selected the perfect sofa, figured out your ideal finish, and you’re ready to purchase it. Stop right there! Before you go ahead with this plan, Maiden Home has a fit guide that describes how to measure your home so that it’s clear that this piece will get through the door and into its desired position.

Does Maiden Home Offer Delivery?

Maiden Home furniture is delivered with a white-glove service; professionals will handle the route from the street into the right room, unbox your purchase, and assemble it. None of Maiden Home’s items are outdoor-friendly, so the space has to be under your roof! One more important note: Maiden Home’s deliverers won’t go higher than four flights of stairs. So, if you’re in a fifth-floor walkup, you’ll need to figure this out yourself.

Most of Maiden Home’s furniture will be delivered as a flat-fee for this white-glove service, and the exact amount depends on your home’s proximity to the North Carolina manufacturer. If you’ve purchased a small item, that’ll likely arrive by carrier.

Are There Any Maiden Home Sales?

There aren’t any sales, holiday or otherwise, on Maiden Home’s calendar. That’s because the company sees their consistent pricing as a form of transparency with their customers, and notes that offerings are already competitively marked as a primarily direct-to-consumer brand.

Maiden Home Review 2023

The Dune Sofa
The Dune Sofa

Perhaps the most well-known sofa in the company’s catalog, the Dune features a single cushion across the full length of the frame, and oversized cushions for support. The entire sofa has a removable slipcover that’s machine-washable, if you choose a performance fabric, which definitely comes in handy for spills!

The Crosby Sofa
The Crosby Sofa

As far as small-space sofas go, the Crosby packs as much style into an efficient footprint as possible. Its low-slung back is mid-century cool, but its sectional still makes it comfortable. While this look will never go out of style, it’s particularly sharp in a dark wash.

The Hyde Chair
The Hyde Chair

This is the type of side chair that’ll get attention no matter what else is happening in a room. The Hyde Chair is made of white oak with brass feet, and its classic form comes in a leather that’ll only get softer with time.

The Kent Bed
The Kent Bed

Consisting of all-over upholstery that’s slightly curved in the headboard, The Kent Bed looks like the type of piece that’ll stay on trend regardless of outside forces. Keep it traditional in cream, or go for something more unique, like olive. Either way, you’ll have a showstopper.

The Cooper Dining Chair
The Cooper Dining Chair

Angular and dramatic, the Cooper Dining Chair is exactly the type of piece that a designer would choose for an editorial spread. Its back and seat cushions can be customized to fit your palette, and the black frame will dazzle no matter which one you choose.
