‘Magnum P.I.’ Fans Are Freaking Out Over the Exciting Season 5 Update NBC Shared

Magnum P.I. may have been axed, but the show just dropped an update that fans will want to pay attention to.

Less than a month after NBC announced that the hit drama would end after season 5, the network delivered a major clue about when the final set of episodes will air. In an official statement released by Deadline on July 19, viewers learned that Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and co. will be back on their screens in time for the fall 2023-2024 TV schedule. What's more, the outlet reported that the season 5 part 2 premiere will mark the show's switch to a different night. The series will debut its final chapter on Wednesday, October 4 at 10 p.m. ET.

Shortly after the news broke online, Magnum P.I.'s social team went on Instagram to confirm it. "Not long now, ohana. 😎," read the caption. "Magnum P.I. returns Wednesday, October 4 on @nbc and streaming on @peacock."

When longtime fans noticed that the reboot series shared an exciting announcement about season 5 part 2, they rushed to the comments section to voice their feelings about it.

"Yay! I can hold on until then... I think... by watching old episodes!" one person wrote on Instagram. "👍🏻 Good news, can't wait to see more 💖," another chimed in. "Can’t wait!! I’m so excited," a different viewer exclaimed.

While the majority of folks were thrilled to learn of Magnum P.I.'s last venture on NBC, the news brought about a resurgence of people begging for NBC to green light more seasons. "Good News but we also want season 6 for this show. #RenewMagnumPI 🙏🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞❤️❤️❤️❤️ please NBC," someone else said.

Although it doesn't look like the series will come back, it's important to remember this isn't the first time Magnum P.I. has gotten canceled. The show was initially taken off the air in May 2022, over licensing fees that NBC pays to the franchise's original network CBS. Eventually Magnum P.I. got renewed for season 5 in July 2022, with rumors of a possible season 6 at the time.

Here's hoping for a possible comeback but for now, there are new episodes to start counting down to!
