Magnolia Bakery first opened its small New York City shop in 1996 and has since grown a cult following, thanks in part to its iconic banana pudding. Tourists and locals alike stand in lines around the block to buy some, and the item is the most popular on the bakery's website. It's for good reason: The dessert's thick layers of fluffy vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and tender vanilla wafers are downright decadent. But if you've ever wondered how Magnolia Bakery's famous dessert could get any better, now there's an answer.

Delish is psyched to exclusively announce the existence of Magnolia Bakery's new banana pudding cookie, which is everything you love about the cult classic dessert, now in cookie form. Yes, really!

CEO and Chief Baking Officer Bobbie Lloyd spent six months crafting and perfecting the recipe to make sure it held up to the original. Her tactic? To compare each bite of a cookie with a spoonful of pudding to see how close she could get.

"I wanted a real banana flavor to shine through," Lloyd said.

We got our hands on both the classic banana pudding and the new cookie to try Lloyd's method ourselves. Our verdict: Magnolia Bakery's pudding recipe is exquisite, but the banana pudding cookie takes that classic flavor to the next level. Each cookie is packed with crushed vanilla wafers and mashed banana, which really captures the the banana pudding's sweet essence. The addition of crunchy white chocolate chunks add a wonderful, textured surprise.

Plus, if vanilla wafers are your favorite part of the original banana pudding, you'll love the toasty flavor of the banana pudding cookie. It's reminiscent of homemade banana bread, only with plenty of mix-ins and a perfect chew.

Want to get your hands on some? The banana pudding cookies are available in-stores and online for national shipping starting May 9th. They're $25 for a pack of six, so go order a box and try them yourself!
