Mady Gosselin claps back at fans who are calling her siblings ‘damaged’ and ‘crazy child stars’

Madelyn (Mady) Gosselin — the 22-year-old daughter of Jon and Kate Gosselin and former child star of the TLC show Jon & Kate Plus Eight — is pushing back against the narrative that she and her siblings are “damaged” in a rare TikTok response.
The video, posted in reply to a comment from TikTok user @slagathor42 (an account that’s since been deleted), gained over 426,000 views, 37,000 likes and over 1,400 comments.
The Gosselin family has experienced their fair share of viral moments on TikTok. Last year, a 2014 Today interview with Kate Gosselin resurfaced on the platform, which many users claimed was full of “red flags.” That same year, Mady’s younger brother, Collin, made viral waves when he sat down with Entertainment Tonight to reveal why he was estranged from their mom, Kate.
But now, Mady (@madygosselin) is setting the record straight on the narrative following her and her siblings — and asking TikTokers for a little kindness and some much-needed boundaries.
Mady’s video was posted as a reply to the comment, “But instead, the wedge was driven [so] deep and triangulation to tear you apart… but maybe one day all will heal…”
“This is the singular time I’m going to address this, because it is sending me over the edge,” Mady’s video begins.
“The rhetoric in so many of my comments about childhood trauma and healing and whatever you want to say about my family, my life, my parents, whatever — is not your business,” Mady states.
“Perpetuating the narrative that we are ‘damaged’ or that we are ‘crazy child stars,’ or whatever you want to say, is extremely harmful as myself and my siblings are going out into the world and will be functioning members of society with careers.”
Mady, who first appeared on national television at the age of 5 in the Discovery Health Channel special, Surviving Sextuplets and Twins, was regularly featured on the hit TLC show, Jon & Kate Plus Eight (later renamed Kate Plus Eight) until its finale in 2017. She also appeared in her mom’s spin-off series, Kate Plus Date, in 2019.
“There seems to be a public consensus that if you’re in the public eye, your entire life belongs to the public, and that is in no way true,” Mady states in her TikTok.
“Regardless of whatever narrative you’ve created in your head from what you’ve seen, my siblings are doing so well. They are all amazing people. They are all smart, they are all kind, they’re driven students, they’re working hard, they’re funny, they’re stylish.”
Mady, who began her TikTok account in 2020, has used her platform to give followers an occasional glimpse into her relationships with her seven other siblings.
“As upsetting as it is to hear this, you are not entitled to that information about their lives, or about my life. What I share on social media is my choice, and you are not entitled to anything more than that,” her video continues.
“I’m sorry if that’s hard to hear, but, that is a boundary that I have set for myself, and for what I share on here about my family, and if you can’t respect it, then unfollow me or I’ll block you.”
Mady continues, “The internet shouldn’t be just a free-for-all where you can bully anyone that you see. Decorum and kindness should still exist in comment sections and you shouldn’t say things that you wouldn’t say right to my face.”
She concludes, “Yes, there is nothing stopping you from commenting these things, except for yourself. You should choose to be kind to people, and to respect their privacy on the internet. “
The video — captioned, “i’ve been getting hate mail since i was 6 but that doesn’t mean you need to keep sending it. learn how to respect people’s boundaries and practice kindness. i bet your life will be so much more enjoyable because of it!” — gained over 1,400 comments.
“They feign concern about y’all being exploited as children yet they are lining up to exploit you as adults. Keep being you. You are doing great,” one user wrote.
“I love how protective you are of your siblings!! Set those boundaries mady 👏🏼,” another user commented.

“🥰👏🏽 yes people are so mean,especially to young people, you a such a kind and intelligent person and glad you and your siblings are doing wonderful,” another comment read.
“i’m so proud of you guys for pushing and creating your own lives. i’m so sorry y’all have to deal with such invasive people,” one user wrote.
“Preach girl. people are effing ridiculous 😳 I’ll never get why someone can say such hateful bs to someone they do NOT KNOW! 😳,” another user responded.
Hopefully, strangers online will respect Mady’s wishes — and her boundaries — by choosing kindness.
