Maddie Ziegler Explains Why She Left "Dance Moms"

It's been a little over a year since Maddie Ziegler officially left Dance Moms. Her departure (along with her sister Mackenzie) was definitely bittersweet, as other cast members were sure to miss her, and Maddie's time on the show has been marked with some seriously impressive performances.
But in retrospect, it seems as though Maddie is happy to have moved on to a different chapter in her life. She recently told Seventeen that being a part of the series was a "really stressful time." Maddie added: "I just didn't want to deal with all of the drama anymore. I'm happy I've moved on. I get to step out and do my own thing and be myself." However, she doesn't necessarily have bad memories of Dance Moms, explaining that she's certainly thankful for the experience and that she misses dancing with the other girls on the show.

This isn't the first time that Maddie has opened up about the drawbacks of her Dance Moms experience. Earlier this spring, she explained to People that the show had her "stressed at 11 years old." She also noted that she was glad that she moved on from competing in general, explaining: "A trophy doesn't mean anything." And it definitely seems as though Maddie has a bright future to look forward to; her debut film The Book of Henry hits theaters tomorrow (June 16). We can't wait to see what Maddie has in store for her fans next.
