  • CBS announced in May that Madam Secretary was canceled after six seasons.

  • The finale episode aired on Sunday night and fans of the political drama are devastated.

Madam Secretary is officially over.

After six seasons, the beloved CBS drama that chronicled the political and personal life of President Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) aired its final episode. When the network first announced that the long-running series was cut from its 2020 lineup, devoted fans anticipated a sorrowful goodbye—but no one was prepared for just how emotional the show's ending would really be.

The final scene showed President McCord and first husband Henry (Tim Daly) kissing on the back of a train, with the residents of a small town along their whistlestop tour cheering as the caboose pulled away.

The sweet farewell moment perfectly honored the relationship between Madam Secretary's starring couple and, with the White House wedding also celebrated in the finale, left viewers in pieces.

Some people thanked the series for a "good run" while others expressed disappointment that it's ending too soon. Either way, everyone could agree on one thing: Elizabeth and Henry are couple #goals.

The actors who played the beloved characters both shared heartfelt messages on Twitter, thanking their fans for all of their support.

"My deepest thanks to everyone who watched our show, for your incredible generosity and enthusiasm, it has been an honor to make it for you," Téa wrote.

Tim echoed his on-screen and real-life girlfriend, saying he's "so grateful" for everyone who watched Madam Secretary.

"It was a grand adventure," he wrote. "I hope you laughed, learned, were moved, and mostly that you were entertained."

Can someone please pass the tissues?! 😭
