- CBS announced in May that Madam Secretary was canceled after six seasons.
- The finale episode aired on Sunday night and fans of the political drama are devastated.
Madam Secretary is officially over.
After six seasons, the beloved CBS drama that chronicled the political and personal life of President Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) aired its final episode. When the network first announced that the long-running series was cut from its 2020 lineup, devoted fans anticipated a sorrowful goodbye—but no one was prepared for just how emotional the show's ending would really be.
The final scene showed President McCord and first husband Henry (Tim Daly) kissing on the back of a train, with the residents of a small town along their whistlestop tour cheering as the caboose pulled away.
The sweet farewell moment perfectly honored the relationship between Madam Secretary's starring couple and, with the White House wedding also celebrated in the finale, left viewers in pieces.
Very sad this show is ending! One of the best shows on television. The writing & acting was superior. Loved the final episode. #MadamSecretary— breanne ❤😊🌺☀️🦋☮ (@breanneruss) December 9, 2019
One can never be ready to say goodbye to a show that has been part of your habit for the past 6 years. I remember being in college when I first started watching, and now I'm working professional. Thank you for a good run. You all did well. #MadamSecretary @MadamSecretary— 🌹 Bernadette (@bearnuhhh) December 9, 2019
