Mad River Glen, VT In 'Path Of Totality' Of Upcoming Solar Eclipse

The Solar Eclipse (on April 8th, less than a week away) is a rare phenomenon that has been extremely hyped up in the ski community, likely because skiers love following weather (to predict powder) and being outside.

Vermont will be experiencing a solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 and Mad River Glen is in the path of totality. The resort is advertising that skiers can "ski the eclipse". See below.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring the view of the Sun from a small part of the Earth, either totally or partially. A total eclipse, is when the Sun gets completely obscured by the Moon. During a total eclipse, the sky suddenly darkens and the Sun’s corona will be revealed.

The resort also urges guests to use solar eclipse glasses while the Sun is not fully eclipsed (and frankly, around the eclipse as well, because it's hard to know exactly when it will be fully eclipsed during the transformation).

The day does have some scheduling adjustments. The Single and Sunnyside Double will run from 10-5pm, and MRG will suspend loading at ~3pm to ~3:45pm.

Following the total eclipse, the resort will again allow skiers to board lifts until 5pm.

Unfortunately, uphill travel will be closed on Sunday, April 7th at 4pm through Monday April 8th at 6pm.

There is no overnight camping allowed for this event, and carpooling is strongly recommended due to how busy the area will be.

There will be live music from Bigfoot County from 2:30 – 3:30pm, as well as a second set from them from 4:30 – 5:30pm.

All in all, it will be a day to remember at Mad River Glen, where 100% totality can be experienced outside, with other people who are as stoked about it as you are.
