A teaser for Mad Max creator George Miller's newest film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, has been released.

Based on A.S. Byatt's 1994 short story The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye, the 20-second teaser sees Tilda Swinton as Dr. Alithea Binnie and Idris Elba as Djinn, a magical entity who offers the academic three wishes for his freedom:

“This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.”

Augusta Gore co-wrote the screenplay with Miller, while Doug Mitchell co-produced alongside the director. The film was first announced in October 2018 and began filming in March 2020, but was delayed due to the pandemic. It will be premiering at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

Take a look at the teaser and above and stay tuned for the full trailer, which drops May 20. Three Thousand Years of Longing hits theaters August 31.
