Macy Callaghan Also Scored a Monumental Perfect 10 at Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro

By now, most of us have seen Erin Brooks’ monumental tube on the way to winning the 2024 Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro. However, there was another perfect score in the Challenger Series event that deserves a look: Macy Callaghan’s jaw-dropping barrel in her round of 16 heat against India Robinson.

With six and a half minutes to go and a three-point deficit, Callaghan needed a solid score to get her into the next round. Right on cue, Snapper Rocks produced one of its picture-perfect barrels and Callaghan tucked into what just may be a career-defining wave. By the time the New South Wales surfer emerged, anyone with eyes already knew it was going to be a huge score, but Callaghan threw in a couple of turns just to seal the deal. Her efforts were rewarded with a perfect 10 and a trip to the quarterfinals, where she would eventually fall to fellow Aussie Isabella Nichols.

“I’m pretty speechless. That was probably the best heat of my life,” said Callaghan in the interview after. She also added in a friendly jab at the women’s surfing nay-sayers: “That one was for Hughey Vaughan, apparently. He said that chicks weren’t getting behind the rock enough, but hopefully that one proved to all the boys out there that that was good enough.”

When Callaghan reposted the clip on her Instagram, there was an immediate flood of praise from the pro surfing community for the incredible ride. However, San Clemente scion Kolohe Andino may have summed up the response most succinctly: “Now Snappers for the fucking girls!”
