MAC Is Launching the Lip Lacquer of the Future

We're calling it now — the universal love for matte will dry up (pun intended) in 2020. In its place will be vinyl-effect, or the plastic-like, latex-shiny finish of the future. On December 19, MAC's latest launch will arrive to help usher the trend into the new year — and, in my humble opinion usurp matte's throne.

MAC has just announced the drop a vinyl-effect liquid lipstick it's calling Patent Paint Lip Lacquer ($22). Here's the description courtesy of Michelle Clark, MAC's senior national makeup artist: "Mouth off, and paint your pout with this over the top shine. The glorious gloss shows up with high-impact shine, undeniable full color purity and a lightweight feel. It’s bossy, saucy, and loud AF." The formula looks like wax, but it's actually wax-free. Instead, gel in the formula creates the glossy, plastic sheen.

The lacquers will drop in 15 shades, including Slick Flick (earthy red), Shellac Shocked (deep blue-violet), Magic Mirror (nude with gold undertones), and more. Each tube is splattered with paint (get it?) and comes with a doefoot applicator. It'll go on exactly like those matte formulas we've been wearing all year — but it'll shine like 2020.

Come December 19, you can shop Patent Paint Lip Lacquer on maccosmetics.com.
