M Street announces Tavern, Whiskey Kitchen closings

Nashville's Tavern and Whiskey Kitchen restaurants were permanently shuttered within hours of each other Tuesday, according to owner M Street Entertainment Group.

The Gulch’s Whiskey Kitchen, at 118 12th Avenue South, has been a Nashville staple since September 2009.

Tavern, at 1904 Broadway in midtown, has been open January 2011.

Both closures were announced via Instagram.

“Thank you to all guests and team members for making this experience exceptional,” the posts read.

Whiskey Kitchen's closure is paving the way for a new hotel development, led by property management group and developer CB Ragland Company, M Street Entertainment Group said in a separate announcement on Wednesday.

"It is most likely that M Street will put a new restaurant in the hotel upon its completion in 2024," the announcement said. It also noted that Tavern's closure was necessary due to required facility upgrades, and M Street is "evaluating the future of the space."

Whiskey Kitchen’s popularity was largely due to its menu of Southern classic dishes from Low Country Pulled Pork Sandwich to Creole Shrimp n Grits and its vast whiskey selection.

Tavern was a local foodie favorite that served retro-inspired cocktails and small bites. It was also a popular brunch spot with offerings such as Red Velvet Waffle, Junk Salad and Turkey B.L.T.

M Street Entertainment Group, which also owns and operates Nashville restaurants Kayne Prime, Saint Añejo, Moto and Virago, confirmed that Tavern and Whiskey Kitchen staffers have accepted opportunities at other restaurants in the group.

Tavern confirmed that all its employees were moving to Saint Añejo.

The additions to the restaurants' staff will allow them to operate at full hours.
