The Super Bowl is to football players as Black Friday is to me, a shopping writer. I have been sifting through all my favorite fashion sites, looking for the best deals on pieces that have been living on my wishlist or that I need to restock ahead of the looming winter, and there is no better time to shop winter essentials than now when most prices are basically slashed in half. It has been a bit of a waiting game watching items go on and off sale and in and out of stock, but I was able to catch pieces from Madewell, Nordstrom, J.Crew, and Amazon for up to 45 percent off, and it’s on everything from sweater dresses to trousers. I compiled six of my fashion picks below — but hurry, they are sure to sell out.

My favorite thing to shop for amongst all the Black Friday dealings is basics. I get the most wear out of them, and when the price is slashed in half, my cost per wear is nearly free (#girlmath), which is why I plan on stocking up on more shades of Trendy Queen’s Long-Sleeve Top. I layer them under flannels for extra warmth and alone with a pair of mom jeans. The closet essential comes in 19 colors, including black, pink, green, white, and gray, in sizes XS through XL. It features a body-hugging design, a scoop neck, and a length that falls just above the natural hip when fully extended, but it can also be styled scrunched for a cropped look

I came across Madewell’s Rosedale High-Rise Straight Pants at the end of August and had predicted that they were sure to sell out — and they did. They are insanely comfortable and super easy to dress up or down, and now that they are on sale for Black Friday, I plan on picking up a few more.

The trousers I coined “professional sweatpants” now come in six colors: tan, brown, black, blue, and green in sizes 00 to 16 with the option of petite, plus, and tall for a more custom fit. They have a high-rise fit with a straight-leg silhouette that hits at the ankle, a zipper and hook-and-eye closure, and a wrinkle-resistant crepe fabric. It has two front and back pockets, along with pleats on both the front and back.

The best time to invest in outerwear is during Black Friday. If you are looking to stay warm but don’t want to shell out a ton of cash for a quality coat, today is the day to add that outerwear piece you’ve been eyeing to your cart. I plan on doing just that with J.Crew’s Heritage Quilted Barn Jacket, that is currently 50 percent off.

It comes in four colors: blue, brown, black, and green, with a contrasting removable point collar in sizes 3XS through 3XL. It features gold-colored snaps and a zipper closure, two front patch pockets with side entry, and a quilted design with down alternative filling for added warmth. The jacket is also fully lined for added insulation and has a roomy silhouette, making it great for layering and a length that falls at about mid-thigh.
