Cindy Crawford

I woke up to snow today in Minnesota — yes, I know, wild! But anyone who’s lived here will tell you that can happen up until, well, May, so you can probably see why I’m particularly itching for some warm-weather moments, which supermodel Cindy Crawford just provided me with. Thank you, Cindy, as your easygoing ‘fit is what’s going to get me through snow day number 360 (I’ve lost count, but you get the idea).

Crawford was snapped out and about in California, where the year-round weather is the polar opportunity of the Midwest. (I get why my sister decided to move to L.A.) While I’m bundled up in heavy down coats, she’s wearing her lightweight trenches, and while I’m wearing shearling-lined Ugg boots, she’s in sandals, just like Crawford was yesterday for her L.A. outing.

The supermodel went with an all-black look, something a New Yorker (me) can definitely appreciate. But unlike the heavy-duty pieces I’ve been wearing on repeat, Crawford went with lightweight, summer-perfect staples, including a billowy black tee that’s a no-brainer for the season ahead. She paired said essential with similarly flowy linen pants that look so chic but are so comfortable. And I know this from experience: Nothing beats airy linen bottoms, especially come summertime when anything tight and constricting is just a no-no. Just as nothing beats lightweight sandals, which Crawford also just wore.

Though right now, given the fact that snow is on the ground, I cannot think of anything but boots and closed-toed shoes. That said, in just a few weeks, I’m sure it’ll be warm enough to do exactly what Cawford did: slip into those iconic Birkenstock sandals that return like clockwork this time of year — and for good reason. They’re comfy! They’re cute! They’re versatile! And that, dear readers, is all you really need in a perfect sole mate (I had to!).

Crawford went with the simple single-strap Madrid slide sandal celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow. Though the German brand’s Arizona style is among the most-worn models, this understated iteration is worthy of your attention, too, as it has all the same tried-and-true as the most famous model: the adjustable strap, the cushioned cork footbed that molds to your unique foot shape, and a moisture-wicking suede insole that’s a game-changer for hot summer months.

The shoe can be worn with everything, too, like linen pants à la Crawford but also jeans, midi skirts, dresses, and leggings. Think of it as the do-it-all-sandal that’s actually good for your foot health, too. Shop more options below.
